ARE YOU IN THE MOOD FOR A GOOD MYSTERY?

once upon a time last year, before I tucked my roses in for their long winter's nap, they were a delicious lemon yellow. Every time I saw a bud,

I would get a sudden craving for a lemon drop...

whenever I watered the buttery blooms....

I started thinking of creaming:  sugar.... butter... eggs....

or my mouth juiced up for lemon bars.

now...that's good stuff to be sure...but the exciting plot thickens....

since awakening from winter slumber, apparently there has been some horticulture hankypanky going on in my rose garden. it seems miss lemon got a little too frisky with mr. red and now, instead of bloomin' sunshine, the first spring flush looks like this:

oh gosh...I feel a craving for peach galette coming on.

isn't that crazy? so for all you gardener's out there...I'm just wondering... is this common? now it would be nice to know why my roses are changing color and all, but maybe you could help me solve the even bigger mystery:

why in the world do I think of food when I look at my roses?

speaking of food, I quite enjoy Pinch My Salt

beautiful roses! they always make me hungry too. i think it's because of their luscious smell. our senses of smell and taste are so closely linked, after all...

Poke your head over your fence and look at that tree of Trump's . Two different trees cross pollinated. hmmm... Something funny must be happening in that soil. Maybe the two of you will wake up and find a rose tree. That might be fun.

Hey, I totally love pinch my salt too! Do you plant veggies or just blooms? If not, maybe it's your inner self telling you to garden, or get a peach and lemon tree:)"

WOW, two really intriguing mysteries....why they changed color, and why you think of food. But, whatever, the presentation of these mysteries is truly phenomenal! Good writing and luscious pictures, Jen.

looks like photography is a hackworth gene. I say good eye! there's so much going on in my yard I would fail to notice such a major shift.

p.s. I'm ready for the peach recipe ;)
